City of Vancouver accepting applications for Affordable Housing Fund project grants

Grants are available for projects that preserve or create affordable housing for residents earning 50 percent or less of the area median income

VANCOUVER — Up to $6.04 million in Affordable Housing Funds are currently available for housing construction, acquisition and rehabilitation projects supporting very low-income households in Vancouver.

Grants are available for projects that preserve or create affordable housing for residents earning 50 percent or less of the area median income (approximately $36,650 for a family of four). Creative and out-of-the-box ideas are welcomed. Local government agencies, non-profit organizations, for-profit developers and individual property owners may apply. Applications for the Affordable Housing Project Grants are due on or before Oct. 31 at 5 p.m.

An optional workshop for interested applicants will take place from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Wed., Sept. 12 at Vancouver City Hall Aspen Room (415 W. 6th Street). Detailed application guidelines and a link to the online application is available at www.cityofvancouver.us/affordablehousingfund.

The Vancouver City Council will determine what projects receive funding in January 2019.

The Affordable Housing Fund was created when Vancouver voters approved Proposition 1 in the November 2016 general election. The passage of the proposition granted the City the ability to levy a property tax for the purpose of buying, building and preserving low-income rental housing and preventing homelessness through rental assistance and other housing services.
