Scammers threaten arrest unless a payment is made immediately
BATTLE GROUND — The Battle Ground Police Department is warning the public about phone scammers falsely identifying themselves as Battle Ground Police Officers.
The scammers place a phone call to a local resident claiming to be a Battle Ground Police Officer, even using the name of a real officer, to threaten arrest unless a payment is made immediately. The calls and voicemails can be very convincing and may even appear to be from the police department on caller ID. Even the call back number they leave on voicemail messages appears to go to the Battle Ground Police Department – but it doesn’t, it is a scam – fake and illegal.
The Battle Ground Police Department never conducts this type of business over the phone nor will they ever ask for any kind of payment. If you receive a call or voicemail like this, hang up and report it by calling 3-1-1 or in person at the Battle Ground Police Department.
